Taking Care of Your Health After an Accident

After being injured in an accident, lots of thoughts run through your mind pertaining to your family. You wonder how they’ll get along without you, how these injuries will impact your ability to be there for them, provide for them, and support them. All these questions and doubts cause an undue amount of stress and anxiety that unfortunately, does nothing for your healing and recovery.

It’s a parents job to worry about the welfare of their children. So, it’s only natural that if mom or dad were injured, that they’d stress about what happens next. The worst thing you can do, however, is obsess over what can’t be changed or controlled. This leads to a world of mental and physical exhaustion that can affect your entire family. The better solution, therefore, is to learn how to take care of yourself and your family as you recover from your injuries.

Have Faith

The more you doubt yourself the more you take away from your faith. If you truly believe that God would never put more on you than you can handle, then you should have faith in knowing that you will get through this. When you start hearing those negative thoughts, strengthen your faith through prayer, writing, reading inspirational materials, or going to church.

Follow Doctor’s Orders

If you’re going to get better you have to follow the advice of medical professionals. Whether that means taking a certain medication, going to physical therapy, or using supportive devices like a cane or crutches, it’s for your own good. If there’s something you don’t agree with, discuss it with your doctor to come to some resolve.

Give it Time

Don’t be in such a rush to get back to normal that you do more harm than good. Things like taking more pain meds to numb your neck or back pain may feel good at the moment but can result in dependency and addiction. Then, you’d not only have your injuries to recover from but would need to enter a prescription drug rehab Southern California or elsewhere to get sober.

Depending on the extent of your injuries it can take weeks, months, or even years to recover fully. It is best to give your body the time it needs to heal properly or risk causing more harm.

Eat the Proper Diet

It is believed that the body has a natural ability to heal itself. That you are essentially equipped with everything you need to overcome many injuries, diseases, and illnesses. To tap into that potential, however,  you must feed your body right. Your body requires lots of nutrients, minerals, and vitamins to function properly. So, start making sure you’re eating healthy fats, lean proteins, fruits, veggies, and dairy to strengthen your mind and body for faster recovery.

Get Active

As much as the doctor will allow getting active. Whether you’re walking up and down your stairs, squeezing a stress ball, or completing a workout at the gym this movement helps to strengthen the body, reduce stress, release toxins, and boost your mood which is all imperative to your speedy recovery.

Reduce Stress

Stress intensifies pain and can make healing and recovery even more difficult to master. You have to let go of some of the stress in your life. Whether that means consulting with a personal injury attorney to try and fight insurance companies for your compensation, talking to a therapist about the trauma after the accident, or asking friends and relatives to pitch in with the kids until you’re back on your feet, the less stressed you feel, the easier it is for your body to use that energy on healing.

Mom and dad are supposed to be invincible – or so it would seem. So, when one or the other goes down, the pressure to get back up is intense. Be that as it may if you want to get back to being super mom or dad for your kids you have to take the time to care for yourself. As you learn to have faith, follow the doctor’s orders, be patient, eat better, get active, and keep stress to a minimum, you’ll find that healing from an injury is a lot easier.
